FoodCore Alternatives, Honestly Assessed

Writing your own alternatives page is an odd exercise, so this is written as if you were asking a knowledgeable friend rather than a salesperson. Here are the genuine alternatives, and the specific situations where each beats FoodCore. See FoodCore compared with Paprika.

The alternatives, and when they win

AlternativeBeats FoodCore whenCosts
SpreadsheetsUnder ~10 products, nothing pre-packedFree
Paprika / Recipe KeeperYou cook rather than sellOne-off, low
NutriticsYou need accredited nutrition panelsQuote
KafoodleLarger operation with food safety staffQuote
ApicbaseMulti-site, procurement and EDIQuote
Accounting software aloneYour only problem is invoicing£15–40/mo

None of those is a bad product. They are built for different businesses, and buying the wrong category is the mistake worth avoiding, not choosing a competitor.

Where FoodCore genuinely is not the answer

  • You need 24/7 support. FoodCore is one person. There is no overnight cover and there is no point pretending otherwise.
  • You need accredited nutritional analysis for regulated back-of-pack panels. FoodCore tracks macros only.
  • You run multiple sites with procurement and supplier EDI. That is enterprise territory.
  • You want an EPOS or a storefront. FoodCore is back-of-house only.
  • You are not in the UK. There are US pages, but the product is built around UK compliance.

Those are also listed on the about page, because a buyer finding them after subscribing is worse for everyone.

Where FoodCore does win

Three specific things, and they are narrow on purpose:

  1. UK compliance built in, not bolted on. Natasha’s Law PPDS labels generated from recipes, all 14 allergens inherited through sub-recipes.
  2. Published pricing and self-serve signup. £25, £40 or £65 a month including VAT. No quote, no discovery call, no negotiation you will lose for being small.
  3. Built for 1–15 staff. Not an enterprise product scaled down, which usually means an enterprise implementation burden scaled down too.

How to decide without trusting anyone’s marketing

  1. Take your most awkward real product.
  2. Enter it in the trial. Real pack sizes, real prices.
  3. Generate the label. Check it against the Natasha’s Law checklist.
  4. Change one ingredient. See what updates on its own.
  5. Do the same on one competitor. The difference will be obvious.

Frequently asked questions

Is FoodCore better than Kafoodle? Not better — different. Kafoodle is built for larger operations. If you have a food safety manager, look at Kafoodle. If you are a two-person bakery, you will find it heavy. See the direct comparison.

What is the cheapest option? Spreadsheets plus our free calculator, genuinely. It works until allergen propagation starts to matter.
