Kitchen Management Software Compared

Four categories of tool get called kitchen management software, and they differ more in who they are built for than in what they list on a feature page. This compares them honestly, including where FoodCore is the wrong answer.

Pricing for the enterprise tools is marked as not published because it is not — both quote per organisation. We have deliberately not estimated a figure, because our own pages used to carry invented ranges and we removed them.

Who should pick what

  1. Under ten products, no pre-packed sales: spreadsheets plus the free calculator. Do not pay for anything.
  2. Small UK food business selling pre-packed: you need allergen inheritance and compliant labels. That is FoodCore’s bracket.
  3. Need accredited nutritional analysis for back-of-pack panels: Nutritics or similar. FoodCore tracks macros and does not pretend to do more.
  4. Multi-site, procurement, supplier EDI: Apicbase or an enterprise platform. FoodCore is not built for it.

What the feature grid hides

Feature lists converge; the differences that matter are structural.

  • Time to first value. Can you get a real recipe in and a real label out in an hour, or does it start with a discovery call?
  • Whether pricing is published. A published price is a commitment. A quote is a negotiation you will lose if you are small.
  • Who answers support. FoodCore is one person — fast and direct, with no overnight cover. That suits some businesses and genuinely does not suit others.
  • Data portability. Can you export recipes and ingredients if you leave?

Testing any of them

The same five-step test works on all: enter your most awkward recipe with a sub-recipe and an odd pack size, generate a label, check it against the Natasha’s Law checklist, change one ingredient and see what updates, then scale it 4× and check the cost moved.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best kitchen management software in the UK? For businesses with a handful of staff, one with published pricing and self-serve signup, because that category is built for your scale. For larger groups the enterprise platforms earn their cost.

Is FoodCore ever the wrong choice? Yes — if you need 24/7 support, accredited nutrition panels, multi-site procurement or EDI. We list those on the about page rather than waiting for you to find out.
